A special inspection drive has again put hygiene, storage and food labelling under scrutiny.
Telangana food-safety authorities seized approximately 15 tonnes of food products valued at around Rs 30 lakh during inspections of sweet shops across Hyderabad’s core urban region.
Fifteen TG-SAFE teams inspected 32 retail and manufacturing establishments as part of the special drive.
What violations did inspectors report?
Officials reported poor hygiene, expired food products, improper handling and storage and spoiled ingredients at some locations.
Pest and rodent infestation was also detected at certain premises, showing why food-safety inspections go beyond checking only expiry dates.
What enforcement action was taken?
The licence of one Bachupally sweet shop was suspended and the business was directed to stop operations.
Authorities also issued 12 improvement notices and four show-cause notices, with further action depending on compliance and investigation findings.
Were food samples collected?
Yes. Thirty-five samples suspected of adulteration were collected and sent for analysis.
Further action will depend partly on laboratory findings and responses from establishments.
